Writers guild holds fall reading
The Chippewa Valley Writers Guild will hold its 6x6 Reading Series: “Work and Play” at 7 p.m. Tuesday at The Local Store, 205 N. Dewey St.
Readers for this event include retired nurse and novelist CeCelia Zorn, singer-songwriter Billy Krause, motorcyclist and “This Wisconsin Life” contributor Ron Davis, poet Yvette Flaten, children’s book author Katherine Schneider and fantasy writer John Walker.
The premise of CVWG’s 6x6 series is giving six writers 6 minutes to share their work. It is hosted by local poet Jan Carroll.

The Oxbow Hotel and The Lakely will feature two of Wisconsin’s claims to fame at itssecond annual “Beer & Cheese Thing” from 2to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, on the courtyard and patio next to the hotel, 516 Galloway St.
The event offers four hours of unlimited sampling of local and regional craft beers and cheeses made by area cheesemakers.
Some of the brewers featured are Modicum Brewing of Altoona, Lazy Monk Brewing, The Brewing Project, K Point Brewing and others from around the region.
Cheesemakers include Castle Rock Organic Farms of Osseo, Marieke Gouda of Thorpe and Bitfrost Farms of Boyceville.
Other cheeses from Wisconsin makers also will be available to sample during the event.
European folk band Klezmazel will provide live music throughout the event and yard games such as kubb, bean bags and others will be set up.
Tickets to “The Beer & Cheese Thing” are $35 in advance or $45 at the door. This is a 21-plus, rain-or-shine event.

Following the event, guests can stay for the first Green Bay Packers regular season game against the Chicago Bears, which kicks off at 7:20 p.m. Lakely chef Nathan Berg has prepared a tailgate-themed dinner menu to mark the occasion.
Tuesday Night Blues marks 10 years with bash
To celebrate 10 years of blues music Tuesday nights all summer in Owen Park, the Chip-pewa Valley Blues Society is throwing a Tuesday Night Blues 10th Anniversary Bash beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday at The Metro, 201 E. Lake St.
The event will feature musicians Reverend Raven and the Chainsmokin’ Alter Boys with Westside Andy, the Alex Wilson Band and the Jay Edward Band.
Tickets to this all-ages event are $15, or $5 for Chippewa Valley Blues Society members.
