Carlson honored for advocacy
Longtime outdoors print and broadcast journalist Dave Carlson will be honored at an event Tuesday in Eau Claire at the Lower Chippewa River Alliance annual awards dinner.
Carlson, best known for his work on the “Northland Adventures” and “Northland Journals,” Eau Claire-based TV shows about the outdoors, will receive recognition for his work on behalf of the environment at 6 p.m. in the Lions Club pavilion at Riverview Park, 2800 Riverview Drive, Eau Claire.
Carlson will be lauded for his half century of advocacy for the environment. This year’s honor will be given particularly for Carlson’s efforts in support of the state Department of Natural Resources purchase of 991 acres from Xcel Energy’s Tyrone properties at the merger of the Chippewa and Red Cedar rivers.
The program will begin with a social hour/potluck dinner, and attendees are urged to bring a dish to pass and beverages.
Those who wish to can bring fish to prepare as part of a shore lunch with Carlson. An awards program for Carlson will begin at 7 p.m.

CWD topic of June 18 meeting
ALTOONA — State Department of Natural Resources staff and Conservation Congress representatives will host a public meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, June 18, to discuss surveillance and management options in response to the discovery of chronic wasting disease in a deer in western Eau Claire County.
The meeting will take place at River Prairie Center, 1445 Front Porch Place, Altoona.
A public comment period will occur during the meeting for citizens who wish to provide comments to the advisory team.
The Chippewa Valley CWD Advisory Team will help DNR staff in finalizing recommendations regarding sampling strategies and responses to new CWD cases in the area encompassing parts of Buffalo, Chippewa, Dunn, Eau Claire, Pepin and Trempealeau counties.
