Sui­cide re­ported in Bar­ron County jail

BARRON — An in­mate be­ing held in the Bar­ron County jail is dead fol­low­ing an ap­par­ent sui­cide.

Loren Bron­stad, 57, Cum­ber­land, was found hang­ing in a shower by jail staff at 2:45 p.m. Satur­day. Bron­stad was taken by am­bu­lance to Mayo Clinic Health Sys­tem-North­land in Bar­ron and then flown to Mayo Clinic Health Sys­tem in Eau Claire, where he died Sun­day af­ter­noon.

Ac­cord­ing to the Bar­ron County sher­iff’s of­fice, other in­mates no­ti­fied jail staff that Bron­stad was in the shower at­tempt­ing sui­cide. He was found hang­ing by a sheet, and a sui­cide note was also dis­cov­ered.

Bronstad was being held on a probation revocation.

There were about 28 other in­mates in the cell block when the in­ci­dent oc­curred. The sher­iff’d de­part­ment is con­tin­u­ing the in­ves­ti­ga­tion.
