BARRON — An inmate being held in the Barron County jail is dead following an apparent suicide.
Loren Bronstad, 57, Cumberland, was found hanging in a shower by jail staff at 2:45 p.m. Saturday. Bronstad was taken by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System-Northland in Barron and then flown to Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire, where he died Sunday afternoon.
According to the Barron County sheriff’s office, other inmates notified jail staff that Bronstad was in the shower attempting suicide. He was found hanging by a sheet, and a suicide note was also discovered.
Bronstad was being held on a probation revocation.
There were about 28 other inmates in the cell block when the incident occurred. The sheriff’d department is continuing the investigation.
