MENOMONIE — The child behind a threatening email sent to a teacher at Oaklawn Elementary School, 500 21st St. SE, Tuesday, has been identified.

Schools Superintendent Joe Zydowsky said in a tweet that appropriate actions are being considered. He was unable to comment if the child was local to Menomonie.

According to a statement from Zydowsky and police Chief Eric Atkinson, the anonymous email said “I’m coming to your school today to kill everyone in your school because they are all jerks.”

“We take it extremely seriously,” Zydowsky said.

After the threat was received, the Menomonie Police Department was contacted, students were brought inside from recess early and staff ensured that the building was secure. Police remained at the school for the remainder of the day.

Additional security measures will be taken to monitor the school grounds through the end of the week.
