Police identify those involved in two-vehicle crash that left one person dead

CHIPPEWA FALLS — Authorities have identified those involved in a two-vehicle crash that left one person dead around 1 a.m. on Sunday in the town of Sigel.

Zachary J. Evanson, 23, of Cadott died after another vehicle collided with the car in which he was a passenger at the intersection of Highways X and XX.

According to the Chippewa County sheriff’s office: 

Robert J. Boeckman, 29, of Cadott was driving westbound on Highway X when a vehicle driven by Mavrick J. Kolpien, 25, of Cadott turned in front of him. This resulted in a collision with the passenger side of the vehicle Kolpien was driving.

The turning vehicle was flipped onto the driver’s side, under which Evanson was pinned. Authorities believe he was not wearing his seat belt. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

One of the drivers has been arrested for operating while intoxicated.

The incident is still under investigation.
