A Milwaukee developer will conduct a series of meetings during the next three months to solicit input for a proposed Eau Claire riverfront development that would consist of small homes clustered around shared green space.
The city Redevelopment Authority agreed this morning to grant WiRED Properties a 90-day exclusive right to reach a purchase and development agreement for about two vacant acres in the Cannery Redevelopment District on the city’s lower west side near the Chippewa River and north of Madison Street.
WiRED staff member Chris Steinhafel told the RDA the development firm is proposing building relatively small homes at the site with front porches and shared green space designed to appeal to younger people seeking smaller, affordable homes.
The RDA also bought property in the Cannery district from Cigan Properties for $547,645. That purchase is the latest in a series of such transactions in recent years to pave the way for redevelopment efforts there. Only a few businesses and duplexes remain to be acquired.
