A west side Eau Claire restaurant modeled after a supper club has closed, but the building will reopen next month as a sports bar.
Local Lounge, 2106 N. Clairemont Ave., announced on its Facebook page the restaurant permanently closed Monday.
However, it will reopen under new management as The Varsity Club, with a grand opening scheduled for June 17. According to the new restaurant’s Facebook page, it will be an upscale sports pub that serves made-from-scratch food and a variety of craft beer.
Local Lounge owner Chase Collins said in an email that management is changing because his other business, Prosper Real Estate, requires his main attention.
Previously named Live in Eau Claire, Collins’ growing property management company has more than 400 properties in northwestern Wisconsin.
The Local Lounge opened in summer 2016 in what used to be the former Sea Horse Inn. That nautical-themed business started in 1962 as a supper club but stopped serving food in 1996 and then became known as a karaoke bar.
