UW-Eau Claire continues to be ranked among the top five public regional universities in the Midwest by U.S. News & World Report.

In its 2019 Best Colleges rankings, the website ranks UW-Eau Claire in a three-way tie for fifth with Eastern Illinois University and the University of Michigan-Dearborn among the top regional public universities in the Midwest and 38th among all private and public institutions in the region. Every year since 1995, U.S. News has ranked UW-Eau Claire sixth or higher among the top public institutions in the Midwest and in the top third of all public and private regional universities in 12 Midwestern states, according to the university.

“It is a testament to the unmatched UW-Eau Claire student experience that U.S. News has ranked us as a top public regional university for 24 years running,” UW-Eau Claire Chancellor James Schmidt said in a statement. “Putting students first is the focus for our outstanding faculty and staff, who work to assist students in graduating on time and to provide them with high-value experiences like faculty-student research, internships and study abroad that contribute greatly to their success following graduation.”

Other top-ranked regional public universities in Wisconsin were UW-La Crosse, No. 4; UW-Stevens Point and UW-Whitewater, No. 12; UW-Stout in Menomonie, No. 16; UW-Green Bay and UW-Oshkosh, No. 22; and UW-River Falls, No. 29.

The rankings reflect how schools compare within their regions on a set of indicators, including student outcomes, peer assessment, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving.

UW-Eau Claire also was recognized in two additional U.S. News rankings. Among 172 top private and public Midwestern universities, UW-Eau Claire ranked 23rd in the Best Colleges for Veterans ranking of schools that participate in federal initiatives helping veterans and active-duty service members pay for their degrees, and 57th in the Best Value Schools ranking, which takes into account a school’s academic quality and its 2017-18 net cost of attendance for a student who received the average level of need-based financial aid.
