A 27-year old New Richmond man died Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 63 in St. Croix County.
Joshua J. Derrick was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred at about 7:28 a.m. at the intersection of highways 63 and G in the town of Emerald.
The driver of the other vehicle, Brian W. Holldorf, 49, of Baldwin, was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
The two vehicles collided in the intersection after Derrick, who was driving a 2014 Ford Focus, failed to stop at a stop sign on Highway G and struck a 2002 Ford F350 Super Duty Truck driven by Holldorf, according to the St. Croix County sheriff’s office.
Holldorf’s truck then rolled into a ditch, landing on its roof. Derrick’s car came to rest on Highway 63.
A section of Highway 63 was closed for five hours while deputies investigated the crash.
The sheriff’s office notes that bright sunlight might’ve been a factor as it was rising in the east during the crash.
Both men were wearing seat belts.
