The former president of the Menomonie school board is accused of attempting to hire a prostitute in Eau Claire.

Jay Fahl, 55, 340 W. Elm Ave., Menomonie, was charged Thursday in Eau Claire County Court with a misdemeanor count of prostitution.

Fahl is scheduled to make his initial court appearance on Feb. 13.

Fahl resigned from the school board last month. In a resignation letter, Fahl said he wanted to focus on personal matters.

“There are things in my personal life that need my attention and focus,” he said in the letter.

Fahl was on the school board for 11 years and served as board president for three years.

The board has begun accepting applications for the vacant seat.

Vice President David Styer is now the board president.

According to the criminal complaint:

An Eau Claire police officer posted an advertisement for prostitution on Jan. 9

The ad contained a picture of a woman wearing lingerie and a phone number.

The officer received a text message from a man, later identified as Fahl, who asked about a meeting location and was interested in the price.

Fahl agreed to pay $80 for 30 minutes of sex with a woman he believed was a prostitute.

Fahl agreed to meet at a parking lot in the 1300 block of Fairfax Street.

Fahl was arrested when he arrived at the meeting location on Jan. 10.

Fahl had $80 in his wallet and a condom in his pocket.

Fahl admitted he was attempting to meet a prostitute for sex.
