Township Fire Department, which battles fires in rural Eau Claire County, brings a portable basin to hold water fire engines can pump from. After depositing their supplies of water, tanker trucks can then leave to refill while fire engines continue fighting blazes like the one that happened Wednesday at Badger Utility.

A semitrailer business just outside of Eau Claire suffered damage from a fire that broke out Wednesday morning in its service bay.

Township Fire Department was notified about the fire at Badger Utility at about 10:30 a.m. and had it extinguished shortly after 11 a.m., according to department spokesman Nate Murphy.

“The shop took the brunt of the damage,” he said. Offices and a showroom also had some smoke damage, Murphy added.

A damage estimate was not available Wednesday evening.

The business was open when the fire broke out and employees escaped without injury, according to Murphy.

Township firefighters got mutual aid from Eau Claire and Elk Mound fire departments, which sent units to the scene.

Murphy didn’t have the exact cause of the fire but said it involved one of the trailers in the shop.

Badger Utility, which sells, services and deals in parts for semitrailers, is located at 7427 Margaret Lane in the town of Union, which is just off the North Crossing exit of Interstate 94.

Calls to the Eau Claire area business’s toll-free number were routed to an affiliated location in Wisconsin Rapids, which did not have additional information on the fire.
