The Union Town Board will discuss the possibility of replacing town Treasurer Jeffrey Pederson tonight after some residents raised concerns about his job performance.
Town attorney John Hibbard said some people don’t believe Pederson is examining financial documents with enough detail.
According to Pederson, any issues are a product of communication difficulties at Town Hall. Pederson said it’s become difficult to perform his job duties because of disagreements he has with Town Clerk Beverly Christopherson.
“It sounds like it is petty, but it’s serious,” he said.
Christopherson declined to comment.
Pederson said he feels like some town residents think he may be mishandling some property tax payments.
Eau Claire County Treasurer Glenda Lyons said Pederson has made a number of errors handling property tax payments but there hasn’t been any illegal activity. She said county officials corrected the errors.
Town Board Chairwoman Debbie Smith did not comment.
Pederson said he doesn’t plan to resign tonight but is open to discussing smoothing out issues within Town Hall.
The board will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Union Town Hall, 1506 N. Town Hall Road.
