Editor’s note: Gimme 5 is a five-question interview on a topic of local interest.
Who: Cindy Welk, co-owner of Snout Saloon.
Talks about: The sixth annual Irvine Zoo Bike & Classic Car Run.
When: Noon Saturday.
Where: Begins at the Snout Saloon, 13 W. Central St., Chippewa Falls.
What is this event?
It is a motorcycle ride. It doesn’t matter what you drive.
They go on a ride at noon and have food when they come back.
They’ll be back at 4 p.m., and we’ll do our raffle at 5 p.m.
How many people usually participate?
That depends on weather. We’ve had anywhere from 30 to 60 riders. We’ll do it even if it rains; last year we just did a local pub crawl.
How much does this event raise?
Our goal this year is $5,000. We’ve raised $20,000 over our first five years.
What is the money used for?
This is a fundraiser for buying equipment for the Irvine Park Zoo. Everything goes toward the purchase of things for the animals.
The toys, mirrors, balls, they play with are purchased from our funds. The goal this year is to raise money for another bear platform.
Why did you pick this cause?
I’ve always been an animal lover, and the zoo is a free thing that people can go do. It’s so fun to bring them new toys.
The animals are ecstatic — they are jumping up and down, because they can’t wait to get to the new toys.
