CHIPPEWA FALLS – A man who led police on a high-speed chase in Chippewa Falls and Lake Hallie, and reportedly fired shots at officers Friday night, is also suspected in a possible domestic incident in Eau Claire earlier in the day.
Chippewa County Sheriff Jim Kowalczyk said police had learned early Friday morning that a woman was thrown from a car, and she was hospitalized in Eau Claire. An Eau Claire Police Department press release said that the victim was in critical condition.
“During the course of the investigation, the Eau Claire Police Department identified a suspect and worked with surrounding agencies to locate him,” Lt. Derek Thomas said in the release.
Police learned the suspect was in the Chippewa Falls and Lake Hallie area, and multiple agencies worked together to try and take him into custody.
“However, the suspect fled in his vehicle and a pursuit ensued,” Thomas said. “During the course of the pursuit it was reported that gun shots were fired. The pursuit ended in the area of Melby Road and U.S. 53. The suspect was taken into custody. Nobody was injured during the incident and the investigation is ongoing. There is no risk to the public.”
The name of the suspect hasn’t been released at this time. It is unclear where he is being held, or when he will appear in court.
The Eau Claire Police Department is the lead agency on the possible domestic incident, while the Chippewa County sheriff’s office is handling the investigation of the pursuit.
Other agencies involved Friday were the Chippewa Falls Police Department, the Lake Hallie Police Department, the Wisconsin State Patrol and the West Central Drug Task Force.
