MENOMONIE — Two Eau Claire men face burglary charges in Dunn County after authorities say the duo stole items, including an autographed Michael Jordan basketball jersey, from a home abandoned after a fire.
Michael A. Tenney, 33, and Ryan J. Weiss, 38, both of 428 Vine St., Unit 2, have been arrested on a probation hold and are in the Eau Claire County Jail.
Charges of burglary to a dwelling have been forwarded to the Dunn County district attorney.
According to the Dunn County sheriff’s office:
Three people were displaced Oct. 11 when a house in the Dunn County town of Rock Creek was burned. Suzanne Valleau-Schiel’s daughter Kelsey Schiel had a basketball jersey in the home that was autographed by Jordan at his Chicago restaurant in 1995, when she was an ailing child. Kelsey Schiel is 28 today.
On Nov. 2, a family member showed up at the burned-out house and saw two men running into the home, according to Valleau-Schiel, who lives in suburban Chicago. The men told the family member they were stealing from the site and drove away with a garbage can full of items.
The signed Jordan jersey remains missing, the sheriff’s office said. Jordan heard about the theft and replaced the memento.
The sheriff’s office asks anyone with information about the burglary to contact authorities at 715-232-1564 or dunncocrimestoppers.com.
