CHIPPEWA FALLS — Two people accused of tricking a cognitively limited person into buying items for them have been charged in Chippewa County Court.
Brandie R. Schofield, 19, of 527N4791 Highway 25, Menomonie, and Andrew Conklin, 23, of Ladysmith, were each charged with theft-false representation over $10,000.
According to the criminal complaint:
A Chippewa Falls police investigator met with the victim, who said Conklin talked her into buying 12 phones, a tablet, four credit cards, two payday loans, jewelry, five vehicles and a lease for a television.
The five vehicles were all bought between July 10 and July 19 at a total value of $119,000. In each case, the victim provided the keys to Conklin at the dealership.
Conklin will return to court Feb. 20. Schofield will return to court March 13.
