LADYSMITH — A 45-year-old Conrath man accused of shooting and killing a Rusk County deputy in October 2016 has changed his plea. During a court appearance Monday, Doug S. Nitek, 45, told St. Croix County Judge Scott Needham he was withdrawing his not guilty by reason of insanity plea and entering a plea of not guilty, according to court records. Details of a rural Eau Claire County road and bridge project planned for 2019 will be discussed at a public information meeting next month. Kraft, who is accused of fatally shooting Robert Pettit, 53, of Conrath. Kraft was charged with first-degree intentional homicide on Monday. Kraft is considered armed and dangerous. INDEPENDENCE — Police are seeking the public’s help to track down a man accused of robbing an Independence convenience store in December. An arrest warrant has been issued for Daniel A. Monarrez, 25, who is accused of the Dec. 23 armed robbery of the Indee Mini Mart. Monarrez is known to travel between Independence and Rockford, Ill., according to the Independence Police Department. Police consider him “armed and dangerous,” and he should not be approached.
MENOMONIE — The man killed in Saturday morning’s motorcycle crash in the Dunn County town of Dunn has been identified as Levi Thatcher, 25, of rural Menomonie. According to the Dunn County sheriff’s office: Authorities received a report of a missing motorcyclist at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday. Thatcher was not at his residence and his motorcycle was gone. A Chippewa Falls woman will spend one year in prison for violating conditions of her probation stemming from two 2017 criminal convictions. Eau Claire County Judge Michael Schumacher ordered Jolene E. Anderson, 41, 7100 Highway K, to spend two years on extended supervision following her release from prison. Anderson was also fined $971.
