CHIPPEWA FALLS — A Chippewa Falls man is accused of breaking into a bar and stealing several thousand dollars, then returning to the tavern a half-hour later to spend the cash.
Brian D. Huset, 44, 7417 203rd St., was charged in Chippewa County Court with burglary to a building, theft of movable property and bail jumping. He is slated to appear in court today.
According to the criminal complaint:
The theft occurred at 9:20 p.m. March 4 at the Sunbeam Tavern, 1310 E. Park Ave. Employees there told police that Huset entered a rear door to the building and stole up to $3,800 from an ATM. Huset was a frequent visitor to the bar. The tavern has surveillance equipment, which showed Huset — wearing a distinct jacket — entering that area of the building and taking four bags of money. Police made a recording of the video.
Huset returned to the bar roughly a half-hour after the theft and told the bartender he had “won big” and had a large amount of money, which he began using to buy alcohol.
Online court records show Huset is facing charges in Waukesha County for misappropriating an ID to obtain money. He also was convicted in Chippewa County in 2007 with issuing worthless checks and eluding and fleeing officers in 2000.
