CHIPPEWA FALLS — A Boyd man has been charged with driving drunk, hitting another vehicle and fleeing the scene on foot.
David E. Samaniego, 56, 119 S. Boyd St., was charged in Chippewa County Court with fourth-offense drunken driving, hit and run causing injury, operating after revocation, possessing drug paraphernalia and bail jumping. He will appear in court May 29.
According to the criminal complaint:
Police responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash on West Elm Street on April 24 in Chippewa Falls. When officers arrived, they were told the driver of one vehicle, Samaniego, had fled his van and left the area after the crash. Police found him walking on nearby Spruce Street. Samaniego failed field sobriety tests and was arrested. A blood sample showed he had a 0.23 blood alcohol level, which is nearly three times the legal limit to drive in Wisconsin.
The driver of the other vehicle suffered injuries to a right wrist.
Samaniego was previously convicted of his third drunken-driving offense in Taylor County in 2007, according to online court records.
