Petryk asks Ag chief to help steady dairy market

State Rep. Warren Petryk, R-town of Pleasant Valley, is calling on U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue to steady the market for farmers and consumers.

In a release sent Wednesday, Petryk detailed how new tariffs on exported dairy products have hurt Wisconsin’s farming industry.

Ellsworth Cooperative Creamery is projecting to lose $300 million in purchasing ability this year because of trade challenges, Petryk said. Many farmers are on the brink of losing their operations, he said, adding that tariffs on exported dairy products have in some cases dropped dairy income by 25 percent.
