Marijuana question may go to voters in Eau Claire County

  • Marijuana-3

The Eau Claire County Board will vote Tuesday on putting a referendum on the Nov. 6 ballot about legalizing marijuana.

If approved during the board’s 7 p.m. meeting in the courthouse, 721 Oxford Ave., the referendum would poll county voters about changing state marijuana laws.

As drafted, the referendum would allow voters to specify if they want recreational marijuana use legalized, to limit the drug just to medicinal reasons or to keep it illegal in Wisconsin.

The referendum would be nonbinding, but the results would be shared with state legislators and the governor.

About a third of the 29-member board already has shown approval of putting the question on the ballot. Nine county supervisors that serve on two committees recommended that the referendum should go to voters in November.
