MENOMONIE — UW-Stout’s homecoming last weekend wrapped up with about half the fines and arrests that were recorded during last year’s celebration.
Menomonie police arrested eight people and wrote 55 citations from Friday night to Sunday morning. In 2017, police arrested nine people and wrote 112 citations.
There was 17 underage drinking and 13 disorderly conduct or public urination citations this year. Last year, police issued 44 underage drinking and 26 disorderly conduct or public urination citations.
Breaking down the arrests this year, there were two for resisting/obstruction, two for possession of marijuana or cocaine, two warrant pickups, one for criminal damage and one for operating a vehicle after revocation.
Police Cmdr. Todd Swartz said these are some of the lowest numbers he has seen in a long time. He has been with the department for 25 years.
Cool, rainy weather and UW-Eau Claire hosting its homecoming the same weekend are some reasons that Swartz said could have contributed to lower numbers over the weekend.
