MENOMONIE — The Menomonie school district was awarded additional state funding Tuesday to improve school safety and support mental health.

Attorney General Brad Schimel announced 263 schools and school districts will receive $21,281,933 from the second round of the Department of Justice School Safety Grant program, which includes $196,168 going to Menomonie schools.

According to a statement from the district, this round of funding will allow it to provide adolescent mental health training, offer additional trauma sensitive schools training, provide emotional wellness therapy for students, revise the district’s crisis plan, purchase additional security supplies, buy technology tools for emergency communications, purchase additional bus cameras and internet monitoring services, improve the secure entrance at Oaklawn Elementary School and upgrade the video surveillance system at Wakanda Elementary School.
