Kapla, UMass-Lowell placed in Northeast Regional

Eau Claire native Michael Kapla and UMass-Lowell were placed in the Northeast Regional and will face Cornell on Friday in Manchester, N.H., in the regional semifinals of the NCAA men’s hockey tournament.

The field was announced Sunday. Minnesota received an at-large bid and is also in the Northeast regional. The Gophers face Notre Dame in the other semifinal.

Penn State, which beat Wisconsin in double OT in Saturday's Big Ten tournament championship game, is in the Midwest Regional and will face Union (N.Y.) on Saturday in Cincinnati.
