UW-Stout sophomore goaltender Tommi Ahlgren was named WIAC men’s hockey player of the week Tuesday. Ahlgren, a native of Tampere, Finland, earned two wins to open conference play. He made 20 saves in a 4-3 victory over preseason conference favorite UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday and stopped 32 shots in a 2-1 win over UW-Superior on Friday.
Ahlgren has a goals against average of 2.74 with a .897 save percentage.
— UW-Eau Claire junior Jessica Short was named the WIAC women’s swimming and diving athlete of the week. Short took fourth in the 200-yard individual medly, seventh in the 50 free, seventh in the 100 back and eighth in the 100 free at the Rochester Invitational last weekend.
— Eau Claire Memorial graduate Molly Wampler scored 12 points in Hamline University’s 76-56 loss to St. Thomas on Saturday in St. Paul. Wampler also had three rebounds and an assist in 28 minutes. The 12 points were a career high for the freshman guard.
