Andrew Urlaub took first in Saturday’s 5-Hills event and was third in Sunday’s U.S. Cup in class U20 to lead Flying Eagles in Norge Ski Club of Chicago ski jumping tournaments. Nate Mattoon took a fourth and fifth. Urlaub had jumps of 75 and 72 2 meters (246-238 feet) to win Saturday over runnerup Hunter Gibson of Chicago. Decker Dean, Steamboat Springs Colo., was the Sunday winner with jumps of 77-80 meters (253-262 feet) for 265.9 points, the top score of the day. Gibson was second while Urlaub had two jumps of 73 meters (240 feet) to take third. Mattoon was close both days, taking fourth Saturday on jumps of 70-69 meters (230-226 feet) and fifth Sunday on jumps of 72-71 2 meters (236-235 feet). Landon Lee took fifth in U16 on Saturday to lead the young Eagles. Urlaub, Dean and Gibson left after the meet for Switzerland and the World Junior championships this week.
In Continental Cup jumping in Japan, Flying Eagle Nick Mattoon and Chicago’s AJ Brown finished far down the list in three tournaments.
