Chris Duff hit a 3-pointer with 20 seconds left to bring UW-Eau Claire within one, but No. 18 UW-Oshkosh held on for a 77-72 victory in WIAC men’s basketball action Saturday at Kolf Sports Center in Oshkosh.
Duff’s 3 made it 73-72, but Brett Wittchow went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in the final 15 seconds to seal the win for the Titans (16-5, 6-4). Wittchow finished with a season-high 25 points and Ben Boots added 17 for UW-Oshkosh.
George Diekelman scored 20 points to lead the Blugolds (10-11, 2-8), who won the first meeting with the Titans 60-57 on Jan. 20 in Eau Claire. Duff added 15 points and eight rebounds, while Cole Rabedeaux had 10 points.
UW-Eau Claire continued its troubling trend of falling behind early. UW-Oshkosh scored the first 13 points of the game and built a 39-13 lead before the Blugolds rallied.
UW-Whitewater 74, UW-Stout 55: Mitchell Pfeifer scored 22 points in 16 minutes off the bench and the No. 12 Warhawks took care of the Blue Devils at Johnson Fieldhouse in Menomonie.
Pfeiffer was one of three UW-Whitewater scorers in double figures. Dalton Menke had 20 points and Andre Brown had 12.
UW-Stout, which was held to 31.6-percent shooting from the floor, was paced by Zach Dahl, who finished with 20 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. Isaac Elliott had 14 points.
UW-Platteville 74, UW-La Crosse 67: Carter Voelker scored 18 points to lead five scorers in double figures as the No. 20 Pioneers won in Mitchell Hall in La Crosse.
Robert Duax had 16 points, while Clay Gerds, Matt Oestreich and Quentin Schields each scored 11.
UW-Stevens Point 66, UW-River Falls 64: Mark Nelson scored the go-ahead bucket with 4 seconds left to lift the No. 25 Pointers over the No. 24 Falcons at Quandt Fieldhouse in Stevens Point.
Brandon Spray led UW-Stevens Point with 13 points, while UW-River Falls got 13 each from Alex Herink and Brennan Witt.
UW-Whitewater 94, UW-Stout 52: Brooke Trewyn and Andrea Meinert each scored 13 points as the No. 19 Warhawks rolled at Kachel Gymnasium in Whitewater.
Trewyn added 11 rebounds and five assists. Becky Raeder had 11 points off the bench. She was one of 15 UW-Whitewater reserves to see action.
Bailey Diersen scored 16 points to lead the Blue Devils, who shot 29.2 percent from the field.
UW-La Crosse 66, UW-Platteville 60: Behind 11 points each from Dani Craig and Shayla Karge, the Eagles won on Bo Ryan Court in Platteville.
UW-Stevens Point 72, UW-River Falls 70: Mickey Roland’s basket with 2 seconds remaining lifted the Pointers to the victory over the Falcons at Page Arena in River Falls.
That also meant a double-double for Roland, who finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
