UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stout will be well represented at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, which begin Friday in Birmingham, Ala.
Blugolds senior Darin Lau qualified in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters, junior David Kornack in the shot put and sophomore Dylan Cooper in the heptathlon. The distance medley relay of Brendon Paucek, Brandon Christnovich, Dylan Lueck and Memorial grad Patrick Treacy is the top seed, while the 1,600 relay of Aaron Zmolek, KJ Munn, Dietrich Schwoerer and Hunter Henk is seeded third.
On the women’s side, UW-Eau Claire senior Sarah Glidden is the top seed in the pentathlon. Senior JoHannah Theisen, a Regis grad, and junior Erica Oawster qualified in the shot put and Mel Becker will compete in the mile. The 1,600 relay of Ashleigh Buergi, Lizzy Keena, Glory Hecker and Glidden also qualified.
UW-Stout has two women’s qualifiers — junior Kaitlin Mallek (60 meters and long jump) and senior Kayla Pabst (weight throw) — and three men’s qualifiers — senior Sam Elsner, the top seed in the shot put who also made it in the weight throw, and pole vaulters Noah Zastrow and Joshua Freyholtz.
