The Chippewa Falls McDonell boys basketball team earned the No. 3 seed in the WIAA Division 5 boys basketball state tournament bracket and will take on second-seeded Deerfield in the state semifinals at 10:45 a.m. on Friday at the Kohl Center in Madison.
It is the first year the WIAA reseeded the state tournament after all of the qualifying games had been completed.
The Macks punched their ticket to their third-straight state tournament after pulling away from South Shore 62-48 in the sectional finals on Saturday night in Spooner.
McDonell erased a 14-point halftime deficit in the regional finals on March 3 at Owen-Withee to win 64-63, and it never slowed down after that second half.

Bangor is the top seed in Division 5 and will take on Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran — a program the Macks beat in the state semifinals two season ago — at 9:05 a.m. on Friday.
Deerfield ousted Oshkosh Lourdes 65-42 on Saturday night and comes in with a record of 23-4.
McDonell won the state title in 2016 and fell in the semifinals last season.
This year’s Macks group enters Madison with a record of 17-10.
