College roundup (April 24): Blugolds split with Cardinals

Tessa Dachel had three hits, including a pair of doubles, and four RBIs to lead UW-Eau Claire to an 8-2 win over St. Mary’s in the first game of a nonconference softball doubleheader on Tuesday in Eau Claire. St. Mary’s took the second game 4-3.

Catcher Abbey Place was 3-for-3 with two RBIs in the win for the Blugolds.

Dachel, a Chippewa Falls grad, drove in two more runs in the nightcap.

UW-Stout 5-9, UW-River Falls 3-1: Kaylee Francois had five hits and scored five runs on the day as the Blue Devils earned the sweep in Menomonie. Beth Wood was the winning pitcher in the first game and drove in three runs in the second. Freshman Melea Bruns went the distance in the second game for the win. Mary Iliopoulos had three hits in the nightcap.
