Back-to-back RBI doubles by Phillip Sikes and Scott Ogrin with two outs in the ninth inning lifted the Eau Claire Express to a 7-5 win over the St. Cloud Rox in the second game of a day-night doubleheader on Wednesday in at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud, Minn.
The Rox used an 11-run inning to roll in the opener 13-1.
North grad Adam LaRock opened the ninth-inning rally with a leadoff single and came around to score the go-ahead run. LaRock and Sikes also had RBI singles in the seventh to pull the Express even.
Zach Grech threw 33 innings in relief of Trevor Olson, striking out five and giving up just one hit to get the win. Sikes worked around two walks in the ninth to get his sixth save.
Eau Claire scored three runs in the fifth, with Noah Sifrit’s RBI triple the highlight.
Ryan Davis had three hits, including a solo home run to lead the Rox.
In the first game, St. Cloud sent 15 hitters to the plate in an 11-run fifth inning.
Most of the damage came against starter Rece Dietrich and Isaiah Davis. Dietrich went four-plus innings and gave up five earned runs on eight hits. Davis got just two outs and gave up seven runs — three earned — on four hits and three walks.
Eau Claire scored its only run in the third inning when Spencer Myers led off with a double and came around to score on Jimmy Glowenke’s single. Myers had two of the Express’ six hits.
