The Eau Claire Express matched the Willmar Stingers blow for blow through the middle innings, but couldn’t hold off a late rally in a 6-5 loss at Carson Park on Friday.
Willmar took a 2-0 lead in the third inning before the Express tied it with two runs in the bottom of the frame. The Stingers regained the lead with a run in the fourth, but Eau Claire responded with two runs in the bottom half on back-to-back RBI singles from Jimmy Glowenke and Scott Ogrin.
The Stingers tied it again in the fifth, and Eau Claire answered in the bottom half again with another run to retake the lead at 5-4.
Willmar’s Caleb Ricca scored the tying run on a wild pitch in the seventh inning, and the Stingers got what proved to be the winning run on an RBI single by Davis Elliot in the eighth.
Glowenke led the Express with a 3-for-4 night, and Spencer Myers, Ogrin and Drew Hmielewski all added two hits apiece.
Eau Claire travels to Bismarck for a two-game series this weekend.
