The Eau Claire Express couldn’t quite keep up with Bismarck on Saturday, falling 8-6 to the Larks on the road.
Cody Milligan started the game with a bang for Eau Claire, hitting a solo home run to lead off the first inning. The Express added two more runs on RBI hits by Troy Beilsmith and Ryan Bishop to take a 3-0 lead after one, but eventually lost it in the fourth inning.
Bismarck plated single runs in the second and third innings, and pushed three more across in the fourth. Cristian Montes hit a two-run triple to highlight the scoring in the fourth, which gave the Larks a 5-3 lead.
The Express tied it with an RBI single by Bishop and a sacrifice fly by Drew Hmielewski in the fifth, but couldn’t stop the Larks from scoring in bunches in the bottom of the frame again.
Bismarck took the lead for good on a two-RBI triple by Brandon Barna in the bottom half of the frame. Montes added a sacrifice fly to stretch the lead to 8-5.
An RBI single by Hmielewski in the seventh was the only fight Eau Claire would put up the rest of the way.
It was the sixth straight loss for Eau Claire.
