Errors hurt Express in loss to Border Cats

The Eau Claire Express pounded out 15 hits, but six errors in the field proved costly in a 13-11 loss to the Thunder Bay Border Cats on Friday night at Port Arthur Stadium in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

The Border Cats went ahead for good with a four-run fifth inning that saw the leadoff hitter reach on an error, a hit batter and a run score on a balk. Brandon Trammell’s two-run triple was the big hit in the frame.

The Express started fast with a RBI hits from Nick Brueser and David LaManna in the first. Four runs scored in the second as Mitchell Buban had a two-run double and two runs scored on errors.

But Thunder Bay scored five in the bottom of the second to tie it. Eau Claire got a run in the fourth and two in the top of the fifth, but the Border Cats went ahead in bottom of the inning.

The Express had the tying runs on second and third with one out in the ninth, but couldn’t bring them in.
