Cross Country Team Previews

Big Rivers

Eau Claire Memorial: Qualified for state last year for the first time since 2013. Sectional runner up to Hudson by 5 points. Placed 14th at state. Returns almost every runner that ran at state. Big Rivers runner-up Zak Sather 64th, Scout Stokes 96th, Andrew Vierbicher 139th, George Lynch 149th, Liam Gallagher 169th, Carter Wood 176th.  Sather placed 24th in the 3200 at state track. Coached by Scott Hayden. On the girls side, Sabrina Hagstrom returns was second team all-conference last season. Savanna Garborg is the only senior on the sectional team that placed 3rd a season ago. Team was also third in the Big Rivers. Coached by Angie Rush… Eau Claire North: Graduates David Ecker, who placed 66th at state last year. Also graduated Jason Voelker, who was second team all-conference last season. In all the Huskies graduated five seniors from the team that placed fourat sectionals last year. Top returner, Logan Shakel placed 33rd at the BRC meet last year. On the girls side, top two runners, Savannah Palmer and Miciah Mills, both graduatde. Katrina Mousel, Hannah Brunner, Lauren Flynn, Faith Benzschawel and Lexi Fischer return. Both teams coached by Justin Jablonski. ... Chippewa Falls: Graduated Bryce Daniels after finishing sixth at the BRC meet. Ben LeMay, Noah Graffunder, Josh Gienapp return. Coached by Roger Skifstad. Big Rivers runner-up Katie Faris graduates. Ella Behling returns after finishing fourth at the BRC meet, the only freshman in the top 14. Placed 57th at State. Big Rivers champ in the 800 this spring. Only returning member from last year’s sectional team. Junior Hannah Sillman was No. 3 runner at conference placed 26th. Also coached by Roger Skifstad. ... Menomonie: Patrick Schwartz, Jack Leipnitz, Morgan Selchow, Simon Fichter return from team that was fourth in the Big Rivers. Coached by Adam Topper. The girls team graduates Trya Boettcher, Grace Bilse and Madeline Sorenson from the 2016 state team. Bilse placed 7th at the conference meet, Boettcher 8th, Sorenson 41st last season. Returning junior Emily Schwartz placed 13th at conference. Kaylynn Imsande, Mackenzie Flug and Isabelle Sorenson return. Coached by Craig Olson.  Rice Lake: Lucas Schmidt returns; placed 20th at conference before placing 46th at State. Jonathan Nelson, Elias Schulz, Aaron Dong, Cole Parkman and Derek Penzkover return. Coached by Jamie Stone. On the girls side, Anna Penzkover returns after placing 20th at state in the Division 2 race. Was sixth at the Hayward sectional. Cady Buchli, Abigail Parent, Tricia Cich, Grace Arrigoni return. ... Hudson: The boys won sectional and conference last season. Went to state last year for the fourth straight year. Placed ninth. Senior George Bond won the conference last year. Anthony Weeks, Cale Wilmer, Noah Lundeen all return. Bond 28th at state, Lundeen 133th, Weeks 150th, Wilmer 157th. Coached by Don Krupa. The girls team placed sixth at state in their first trip back to Wisconsin Rapids since 2012. Won Big Rivers last season. Sophomore Rachel Ball won the conference and sectional meets last year before placing 13th at state. Anna Czupryna, Emma Filipiak, Karina Gilson, Ella Young, Alicia Belany return. Fillpiak was 48th at State, Anna Czupryna 71st, Young 97th, Gilson 107th, Sarah Czupryna 117th, Belany 147th. ... River Falls: Returns Mason Shea, Richard Veness, Joey Madsen, Jason Franzwa, Grant Magnuson. Finished fifth in the Big Rivers for girls and returns Calla Dexheimer, Haley Lindaman, Elsa Putzier, Magdaline Weideman, Casey Schlatter, Madeline Danforth. Placed third in conference. Coached by Jeremy Eckert. 

Western Cloverbelt

 Altoona: Boys were third in the Cloverbelt. Returns all-conference runner Evan Moss. Also returns Riley Parks and Jarret Smith. Finished 3rd in the conference for girls. Returns all-conference member Sadie Matthews. Also returns Lauren Theyerl, Morgan Parks, Emily Johnson, Chloe Anczak and Melissa White. Graduates Mariah Hoepner, who now high jumps at Wisconsin. Coached by Todd Lenz. ... Cadott: Boys placed 11th at conference. James Pfeiffer, Andy Hizmann, Austin Sande, Steven Pfeiffer and Zebulun Holstein all return. Coached Thomas Weiss. Placed 10th for girls last season. Top runner Meadow Barone returns. Coached by Thomas Weiss. ... Regis: Boys finished eight in conference. Graduated Zach Yengo, who was 20th at the State meet. Girls finished ninth in the conference returns Janna Mehtala, Kim Hendriksen, Gabrielle Semerad, Sydney Yengo. Coached by John Snyder. ... Fall Creek: Boys had an incomplete at conference last season were 12th at sectionals. David Anderson returns after finishing 21st at conference last year. Girls team was sixth a year ago. Laura Accola returns for her senior campaign after finishing fifth last year, Ellie Ross, Molly Larson, Josie Hook, Sophie Kuehn, Stephanie Corbin, Ellie Thompson all return. Coached by Jami Mapson. ... Chippewa Falls McDonell: Won the Cloverbelt with 34 points a year ago. Conference champ Isaac Bohaty graduated and ended last season on the podium finishing ninth at state was 800-meter state champ in 2017. Team returned to state for the fourth time in five seasons after winning the Boyceville sectional. Joe Thaler, Sean Craker, Charlie Bleskachek return, as does Luke Newton and Mitchell Haley. Bleshachek placed 59th at state, Thaler 61st, Craker 105th, Newton 115th Haley 133rd. Girls were fourth in conference last season. Ellie Eckes, Elise Bormann and Ann David return after being all-conference runners as freshmen a year ago. Anna Geissler, Amelia Gaier, Kristin Swobaoda and Hannah Sykora all return. Both teams coached by Marty Bushland. ... Osseo-Fairchild: Top runner Tristan Shuttleworth graduated. Jared Penkert, Josh Porter are top returners from a team that was 10th last year. For the girls, junior Kari Herman returns after finishing third at conference both seasons. She was Durand sectional champion last year was 64th at state last year. Girls team was 11th in WCC last year. Coached by Janet Wood. ... Stanley-Boyd: Chris Hughes and Dalton McDermond return after finishing 38th and 40th at conference. Team placed ninth. Kelli Shilts is top returner was 42nd at conference last year. ... Thorp: Riley Raether top runner back was 45th at conference. Boys team was incomplete last year. Fallon Immormino placed fourth at conference last season. Cloverbelt champion in 2015 and 2016 was the Boyceville sectional runner-up in 2015 and 2017. Was 3rd at Durand’s sectional in 2016. Was 16th at State in 2015, 2016 and moved up a spot to 15th last season. Coached by Nick Mahr. 


Augusta: Won the Dairyland a year ago over a tiebreaker to Immanuel Lutheran. Top-five was all within a minute of each other at conference, sectionals and at state last year. Top runner at state Jackson Goings graduates andwas first team all-conference. Aaron Dorf, who was the Beavers top runner at conference and sectionals returns, as does Jacob Engstrom, Ryan Gruenwald, Logan Brown, Vincent Ricciardi and Grant Goodell. Went to State for the second-straight season last year as Boyceville sectional runner-up. Dorf was 79th at State, Engstrom 93rd, Grunewald 100th, Ricciardi 117th, Brown 123rd, Goodell 131. Team was 13th. Girls team was incomplete. Senior Carolyn Shult is top returner was 25th at sectionals last year. Coached by Josh Peterson. ... Eleva-Strum: Junior Miguel Limon was the only E-S boys runner last year. Girls Senior Annabelle McAleer was the Cardinals only girls runner last year. Coached by Martin Walter. ... Immanuel Lutheran: Graduates Dan Lau after four state appearances was 15th last year was conference champ last year. Also graduate Austin Karow and Henry Lau from last years first all-conference team. Second in the Dairyland a year ago. Team was fourth at sectionals last year. No girls on the roster. Coached by Stephen Sydow. ... Blair-Taylor: Preston Gutenberg was the Dairyland conference runner-up and placed 66th at State. Was 13th in the 1,600 and 10th in the 3,200 this spring. For the girls team, Thea McAdams and Macie Berg return from last years all-conference team. Hannah Berg, also returns after missing all-conference by one spot. Coached by Alex Lisowski

Dunn-St. Croix

Boyceville: 6th in conference a year ago. Sophomore Nathan Corr missed the all-conference team by one spot last year placing 15th. Girls team was fifth last year at confernece. Graduate Emily Voelker, who was 11th at conference. Naomi Hillman is the top returner was 20th last year. Coached by Corey Day ... Colfax: Boys were third in the conference last year. Luke Heidorn returns from the all-conference team. Trey Hovde, Noah Heidorn, Brady Lawrence, Trevor Rothbauer, Sawyer Best and Cole Seehaver all return. Erica Kallstrom returns for the girls team. She was a part of the 2015 team that was 3rd at state. Qualified as an individual the past two seasons and was ninth and 41st respectively. Team was third at conference last year. Addisyn Olson and Hailey Prince top other returners.Coached by Joe Doucette. ...  Durand: Boys were 3rd at state in 2016, state champions in 2017. Returns four runners and three of the top four. Isaac Wegner, Riley Radle and Amanuel Bauer were first-team all-conference last year. Wegner was third at state, Radle 12th, Bauer 44th, Jacob Haefner 130th. Girls were fourth in the conference last year. Graduate all-conference member Kennedy Robelia was 13th. Coached by Ingrid Husmoen. ... Elk Mound: Move up to Division 2 this year. Boys were second in the conference, third at sectionals last year. Cade Hanson has won D-SC titles in track. Was third at conference and 16th at state last year in CC. Andrew Pathos and Seth Hazen return from the all-conference team. Girls team went to state in 2016; was third at sectionals last year. Alana Plaszcz was second in conference, 68th at state last year. Brook Plaszcz, Victoria Fasbender, Kirstin Martinson, Taya Schaefer and Danielle Olson all return. Coached by Jeremiah Fredrickson. ... Glenwood City: Boys team was fifth at conference last year. Junior Jabin Hojem was 16th at conference last year. Girls team qualified for state as a team for 3rd straight season last year. Sectional champions last two years. Isabella Williams, Julia Dinkel, Gabrielle Moede, Emily Bethell return. Williams, Dinkel, and Bethell were all-conference last year Coached by Matthew Schutz. ... Spring Valley: Boys team was 6th at conference last year. Graduates Calvin Kotval and Julian Davis off the all-conference team. Girls team was also 6th. Katherine Dieckman is top returner was 22nd at conference. Coached by Greg Dieckman.


Cameron: Boys team was ninth at sectonals last year. Sophomore Josh Halverson was second at sectionals, 39th at state. Went to state as a team last year placed 12th. Aurora Felonk, Izzy Thompson, Sydney Lucas, Hannah Zimmerman and Tori Gerber return. Felonk was 70th at state, Thompson 88th, Lucas 113th, Zimmerman 121st, Gerber 140th. Coached by Dave Gerber. ... Bloomer: Boys were second at conference last year. Senior Alex Conrad was conference runner-up, 3rd at sectionals, 38th at State. Cole Michaelsen was 6th at conference. Went to state in the 3200 this Spring. Girls were 7th in the Heart O’ North. Coached by Charlene Kelley.
