Eau Claire North senior Sydney Brown made her first-ever trip to the WIAA Division 1 state golf tournament a memorable one.

She’s coming home with some hardware after tying for sixth place, which was good enough to earn her a spot on the podium with a medal around her neck.

Brown shot an 81 on the second day of competition at University Ridge Golf  Course in Madison. Her two-day score of 156 tied her for sixth with Maggie Veenendall of New Richmond and Mallory Swartz of Franklin.

Brown got off to a torrid start on Monday morning and shot a 75 on the first day to give her some wiggle room on Tuesday.

Eau Claire Memorial senior Lexi Meade, a Drake recruit, wrapped up her illustrious prep career tied for 11th place with Kettle Moraine’s Julia Schilling.

Meade also shot an 81 on Tuesday to compliment her 78 on Monday, finishing with a two-day total of 159.

Bay Port’s Jo Baranczyk held off Arrowhead’s Emily Lauterbach by a stroke to win the individual title (142-143). Both players shot five strokes better than anybody else on the day, going two-under par at 70.

In Division 2 action, Colfax’s Abby DeMoe tied for 13th with a two-day score of 182 (89-93). Hayward’s Emily Neff was sixth at 165 (86-79).

Kettle Moraine won the D1 title by eight strokes (651), while Madison Edgewood won by a whopping 60 strokes in Division 2 (659).
