Student named artist of the week
CHIPPEWA FALLS - Chippewa Falls Middle School eighth-grader Tarrin Halvorson recently was named "Artist of the Week" by Artsonia and Blick Art Materials.
Artsonia is the world's largest online children's art museum, containing more than 5 million pieces of international student artwork.
Chippewa Falls Middle School teacher Karen Scarseth posted her students' artwork on the Web site, and Halvorson's was selected as the weekly winner.
Halvorson received a $50 Blink Art Materials gift certificate and Scarseth won a $100 voucher.

Elk Mount writer releases novel
ELK MOUND - G.R. Revelle has released the World War II novel "Stolen Genes-Stolen Children."
The book is the rural Elk Mound writer's sixth Nordic novel and second about World War II.
"Stolen Genes-Stolen Children" follows two nursing students who meet before the war. Thirty years later, one is prosecuted for the murder of thousands.

Jazz festivalannounces acts
Jazz in the Valley organizers have announced guest artists for the 2010 festival.
Performers will be trumpeter Nicholas Payton, saxophonist Kenni Holmen, vocalist Connie Evingson, violinist Randy Sabien, violinist Matt Turner and vocalist Fred Steele.
There also will be clinics and master classes for college, high school and middle school students.
Jazz in the Valley will take place April 15 though 18 in Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls. Tickets are on sale now.

Marching bands presenting show
Memorial High School marching bands will give an indoor concert from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the school auditorium, 2225 Keith St.
Directed by Eric Dasher and Bruce Hering, the bands will perform a variety of tunes.
Admission is free.
Classes comingto Ager House
The Ager House, 514 W. Madison St., is offering Norwegian, Swedish and German language classes starting in January and February.
There also will be folk art classes in chip carving, rosemaling and Hardanger embroidery.

Student radio releases lineup
UW-Eau Claire student radio station WUEC-FM (89.7) will air the following programs Sunday:
5 p.m.: "Blugold Performance of the Air" will play readings by NOTA members, including student Kathryn Gargo.
6 p.m.: "Jazz, Blues and Beyond" guest host Jim Egan will play swing recordings.
7 p.m.: "Local Independence" will feature music and interviews with west central Wisconsin bands.
