One dead, two injured in Altoona crash

ALTOONA - One person is dead and two were injured in a crash on U.S. 12 in Altoona Wednesday evening.

The names of the victims have not yet been released.

The accident occurred about 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 12 and McCann Drive. A car entered U.S. 12 from McCann Drive attempting to make a left turn onto eastbound U.S. 12 when it pulled in front of a trucking hauling a hay wagon which was unable to avoid a collision and struck the car entering the highway.

All three injured individuals were removed from the vehicles by emergency personnel. Two occupants were transported by ambulance with life threatening injuries. The third injured person was transported with non-life threatening injuries. One of the injured individuals later died at Sacred Heart Hospital due to injuries received in the crash.

All of westbound U.S. 12 and one lane of eastbound U.S. 12 were closed to traffic from the time of the crash until approximately 12:45 a.m.

The crash remains under investigation of Altoona Police Department with assistance from Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office and Eau Claire Police Department.
