MENOMONIE - A 31-year-old man died in a farm accident Monday in the town of Eau Galle after the skid steer he was operating went into a manure pit and overturned in about 7 ½ feet of manure.
Candelario Z. Rayon, a migrant worker from Mexico, died in the incident.
Rayon had worked at the Steven Weinzirl farm for about a year, according to Dunn County Sheriff Dennis Smith.
Emergency personnel were called to the Weinzirl farm about 10:33 a.m. Monday.
Assisting in the investigation was the Dunn County Medical examiner, OSHA and an interpreter from the Menomonie Fire Department.

My sympathies to everyone involved as this is truly a tragic incident. Rainmaker, before you start making assumptions perhaps you should get the facts first. Now I don't know all the facts with this incident either, but are you certain that the worker was here illegally? You realize there are work programs that allow people from outside the U.S. to come here and earn money. Also realize that if people here were willing to do the kind of hard and dependable work that farming entails, for the type of pay that farmers can afford, then there would be no need to hire migrant workers. The farmer would be able to hire someone here instead of from another country.

Condolences to the man's family. Wisconsin Mega Dairy farms who hire illegal immigrants should be investigated and prosecuted. Our state's unemployment is nearly 10% and these farms are bringing in labor from across the border. Now this--a fatality.
