MENOMONIE - UW-Stout officials are attempting to crack down on student alcohol abuse at the Menomonie college, but some UW-Stout students say those efforts are making university attendees more hesitant to contact police.

UW-Stout officials have instituted increased penalties to curb alcohol consumption in the wake of seven student deaths during the past two years. The most recent death occurred last week, when Bradley Simon, 22, a senior majoring in construction management, died from a head injury authorities say he received when he was pushed from a bicycle.
