Boyd E. Relyea, 86, of Eau Claire, passed away on December 24, 2016 at Chippewa Manor, Chippewa Falls.
Boyd was born on July 7, 1930 son of Elwood and Marcella (Williams/Gill) Relyea. He was united in marriage to Jean L. Anderson on May 19, 1951 at Zion Lutheran Church, Blair, WI. She died on January 28, 2014.
Boyd graduated from Taylor High School in 1948. He attended UW-Madison and graduated from the Farm Short Course. He worked on the family farm until 1956. Then, he was employed at the Land O’ Lakes Dairy until 1963. Boyd retired as a State Farm agent after 33 years of service.
He was a member of the City Council, Lions Club, Election Board and Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church Board of Deacons in Whitehall for many years. Boyd was a member of the George B. Wheeler Masonic Lodge #351 and the Scottish Rite Valley of Eau Claire. He was also a member of Zor Shrine, Madison, WI.
Boyd enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, reading, and traveling; especially to Alaska and Europe. He was an avid fan of the Badgers and Packers.
Boyd is survived by his daughters: Susan Donahue, Mary Lou (Robert) Shuda, Kathy (Mark Johnson) Relyea, and Julie (Larry) Will; grandchildren, Terah (Sam) Breuer, Dayne (Sarah) Shuda, Derek (Becky) Shuda and Adam (fiancée, Danyel Doll and Saibyn) Will, and precious great-granddaughter, Macie Jean Breuer. Erin Hilgart held a very special place in his heart. He is further survived by his siblings: George (Dorothy) Relyea, Stan (Rosalie) Relyea, David (Maureen) Relyea, Joyce (Kenneth) Stay, and Sue (Will) Gilford; and sisters-in-law, Doris Wiltrout and Ada Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; parents, and brothers-in-law, David Wiltrout and Robert Anderson.
Funeral services for Boyd will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at Spirit Lutheran Church, Eau Claire with Rev. David S. Wall officiating. The visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
The family would like to thank the staffs at Chippewa Manor and Mayo Hospice Services for the care given to Boyd.
