Joyce Jenson

Joyce Kay Jenson (Semingson), 73, of Eau Claire and Hudson, WI passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 4th at Dove Healthcare West after a long battle with both Multiple Myeloma and Fahr’s disease.

Joyce was born on April 24, 1943 to Peder I. Semingson and LaVerne Semingson (Mathwig) in Eau Claire at Sacred Heart Hospital. She graduated from Memorial High School in 1961 and was married to Eilert (Dave) Jenson on March 9th, 1974 at Epiphany Lutheran Church. Their first 40 years of marriage were spent in Hudson, WI before returning to Eau Claire, WI in 2014.

During High School Joyce worked as a Car-Hop at the popular Pronto Pup root beer stand before beginning a 10 year career at Uniroyal where she worked as a “Splicer” in the tire building department. After marrying Dave she moved to Hudson, WI where they raised their four children. At this time she also began a professional career that spanned 30 years at Western Life Insurance Company that subsequently became Fortis and then Healtheast working as a Benefits Analyst.

Joyce enjoyed spending time with family, coffee while socializing with friends; monthly luncheons with her Memorial classmates — “61 girls”, her trips to California and Arizona, collecting cookbooks, baking, cheering on the Green Bay Packers, listening to Elvis and volunteering for various causes. Recent years brought her back to the hometown she adored. Returning to Eau Claire allowed Joyce to spend much quality time with her honorary grandkids: Hazel, Mae, Bria and Abram.

Joyce was a gourmet chef specializing in all manner of Scandinavian and German fare including Potato Salad, Frog Eye Salad and of course all forms of Norwegian baking. She was the type of person that would always make you feel warm, welcome, and well fed. She will be remembered for her generosity and hospitality.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Sharon, stepson Daniel, and her in-laws Eilert and Phyllis Jenson.

She is survived by her husband, Eilert (Dave), her son, Todd Semingson of Gilbert, AZ, stepsons Stephen (Andrea) Jenson of Mendham, N.J. and Brian Jenson of Hudson, WI, brother Steven (Rosie) Semingson of Huntington Beach, CA, sister Pamela (Gary) Fenner of Eau Claire, WI, grandchildren Reece, Seth, Trevor and Drew Jenson, her Aunt Irene Gonitzke, her many nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as countless friends and her beloved cat Oscar.

Joyce touched the lives of everyone she met and will be dearly missed.

Funeral service will take at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Saving Grace Lutheran Church, 2124 Eastridge Center Street, Eau Claire, WI 54701. Pastor David Irgens will officiate.
