Ronald F. Cater, 82, died Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at his home in Altoona, WI.
He was born May 28, 1935 in Eau Claire to Frank H. and Esther A. (Fischer) Cater. Ronald married his high school sweetheart, Joyce A. Martin, in January, 1955. Their 28-year marriage was blessed with six children. After Joyce’s passing, Ronald married LaVere D. (Walker) Berg in January, 1984. They were married for almost 30 years at the time of LaVere’s death in 2013. Their marriage added the blessing of seven additional adult children to his family. Ron was loved by family and friends, and he will be sorely missed.
Ron worked as a truck and delivery driver and then in the food service industry at UW-Eau Claire until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias for many years. Ron was a 4-H leader as his children were growing up. He also played dartball as a member of Chapel Heights United Methodist Church. Camping with family and the Good Sam RV Club were a favorite summer activity. He enjoyed deer hunting and sharing stories at the family cabin. Ron loved to do woodworking and took pleasure in creating keepsakes for this children and grandchildren. After retiring, he pursued his interests in gardening, bowling and playing cards.
Ronald is survived by his children, Steven (Martha) Cater, Gene (Claudia) Cater, Leslie (Darlene) Cater, Linda Heath (Bruce Halama), and daughter-in-law, Becky Cater, all of Eau Claire, and Barbara (Jeffrey) Salisbury of Abbotsford, son-in-law James Noyes of Las Vegas, Wayne Berg of New Richmond, Paula (Larry) Podwys of Clearfield, UT, Leonard (Carol) Berg of New Richmond, Dawn Berg of New Richmond, Larry (Debi) Berg of Mazomanie, and daughter-in-law Joyce Berg of Eau Claire, sister Karen (Vern) Nelson of Nobles, FL, his sister-in-law Sandy Cater of Eau Claire, brother-in-law Jerry Martin of Eau Claire, 33 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wives, Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Mary Cater, sister Arlene Hagen, brother David Cater, son LeRoy Cater, step-son Daryl Berg, step-daughter Connie Noyes, nephew Dale Nelson, 5 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. There were many angels to greet him in Heaven.
A celebration of Ron’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Stokes, Prock & Mundt Funeral Chapel (535 S. Hillcrest Parkway, Altoona) with Pastor Cheri Miskimen officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
Inurnment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Eau Claire.
