Carol A. Placek 83 of Wis. Rapids passed away April 7, 2018 while on her way home from a joyous winter in Florida.
Carol was born February 28, 1935 in Eau Claire Wisconsin to the late Oliver and Florence Erickson. Carol graduated from Eau Claire High School. Carol married Dave Placek on May 7, 1955 in Eau Claire where they started their family.
Carol was employed by the Wis. Rapids School system specializing in baking. Carol enjoyed playing the clarinet in the city bands in both Eau Claire and Wis. Rapids. She was involved in the Red Hatters, as well as her Bible Study group at First English Lutheran and at Grace Lutheran in Eau Claire. Dave and Carol loved to line dance and polka. Carol’s passion was knitting, making hats, mittens, scarfs and sweaters for many organizations. She made scarves and hats for all of the children in her great granddaughter’s classes. She also gave them to less fortunate children too.
Carol enjoyed camping and spending her winters for the last 20 years with her friends at Camp Florida Resort. Family and friends meant a lot to her which also included many fur babies throughout the years.
Carol is survived by her loving husband Dave of 62 years, daughter Vicki Bey (Roche Rossier), son Mark (Lori) Placek of Wis. Rapids. Grandchildren Ashley (Matt) Ostrum, Brandon Bey, Richard, Steven (Holly Zwicke) Placek and great grandchildren Arianna, Aliya and Korbyn Ostrum all of Wis. Rapids, Sister Audrey (Bob) Schellin of Eau Claire.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Services will be held April 28, 2018 at First English Lutheran Church 440 Garfield St. in Wis. Rapids. Visitation from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. with service to follow at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers a donation to the South Wood County Humane Society in Carol’s name would be appreciated.
