Leona M. Pihl, 98, of Augusta, WI, and St. John’s Apartments in Eau Claire, WI, died Friday, April 20, 2018, at River Pines in Altoona, WI.
Leona was born Dec. 3, 1919, in Good Thunder, MN, to Edward and Huldah (Finley) Stebbins. She was raised in Maxwell, IA, where she graduated in 1938, and married Clarence Pihl on Oct. 9, 1939, in Des Moines, IA.
Leona had worked in Iowa at R.H. Donnelly Company in Nevada and in the Printing Dept. at Iowa State University in Ames. In March of 1957, the couple moved to a farm in Ludington Township, rural Fall Creek, WI, and in November of 1968 they moved into the city of Augusta. Leona worked as a Watkins Representative for 33 years and retired in 1997.
Leona was an extremely active member of the First Baptist Church in Augusta, a member of the County Homemaker’s Club and a 59-year member with Ludington Homemaker’s Club. She was instrumental with the development of the Augusta Senior Center, where she volunteered and served on the Board. She also delivered Meals on Wheels, worked with R.S.V.P. and drove for Triniteam Caregivers of Eau Claire.
Leona is survived by her sister Maxine Myers of Grimes, IA; many nieces, nephews and their families. She was preceded in death her husband, Clarence, in 1997 and by 8 siblings.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 27, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with burial in the West Lawn Cemetery, both in Augusta. Friends may call one hour prior to services Friday at the church. The family is assisted by Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.
Leona’s family would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who were so kind to Leona at St. John’s Apartments and especially Marlo and Marilyn, the staff at Prairie Point Rehabilitation, Amanda and her co-workers at River Pines in Altoona. Also to the St. Croix Hospice Team, Pastor Lindgren, and her longtime close friends who were there to comfort her at the end.
