Julie Macomber, 70, of rural Augusta, passed away tragically due to injuries sustained in a traffic accident in Holmen on Saturday afternoon Sept. 8, 2018.

Julie was a beautiful, warm and caring soul who had a variety of artistic talents and enjoyed working with that ability, but the love she felt for her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren is what defined her.

Julie was one of four children born to Donald and Lieselotte (Kaufman) Patnode. As the daughter of a career U.S. Army Officer, Julie was born in Germany on August 1, 1948, and spent the first 5 years of her life there. At the age of 5 the family moved to the state of Washington and then to Hawaii. She would move back to Germany and other locations before settling in Wisconsin while her Father, Don, served in the Korean War. In 1966 Julie graduated from Madison LaFollette High School and then went on to attend Accredited School of Beauty Culture, and received her diploma in August 1967.

While in Madison she met Evan Zimmerman who she later married in 1971, and to this union their 3 children were born. Julie would go on to open two of her own salons in Madison before moving with her family to Augusta in 1983. While in Augusta she worked in Eau Claire and Augusta at several salons. Julie also enjoyed working at Golden Acres Assisted Living in Eau Claire for over twenty years. After her divorce, she was united in marriage to Richard Macomber on Nov. 21, 1987, at the Full Gospel Mission Church in rural Cadott. Rick and Julie lived all their married life in their home on Lake Eau Claire.

Through out the years Julie often put her feelings into writing and was also equally talented in expressing herself through her paintings. Her ability to capture emotion and express herself in poetry was so inspirational that many of her poems would be used by others for various life events and in an Imagine series of poems. In recent years, she had taken an extreme interest in making jewelry. It was not only the creation that she enjoyed but the camaraderie that she developed with other vendors and customers she met at the various craft shows. She also displayed her jewelry in the gift shop at Belle Vinez Winery owned by her family in River Falls, and to be there in person to explain her designs was such a thrill for her.

Julie and Rick had a favorite get away location and with family and friends spent many relaxing hours at their place at Callahan Lake Resort in Hayward. Julie loved taking all her grandchildren to Callahan and spending countless weekends with them in this very special place.

Julie will be dearly and deeply missed by Rick, her loving husband of 30 years; son Shannon and Angel Zimmerman of River Falls; 2 daughters, Jenny and Chris Berry of Osseo, Jaime Krueger of Prairie du Chien; 7 grandchildren, Josh (Mandy) Zimmerman, Nick Zimmerman (Karalee Dunham), Christian Berry, Sami Berry (Brady Barka), Jordan Berry, Ella and Tatum Krueger; 7 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Addalyn, Harper, Montee, Sophia, Mason and Chandler; mother Lu Patnode of Prairie du Chien; and brother Donald Jr. and Ann Patnode of Oconomowoc. Julie was preceded in death by her father Donald Sr. and 2 sisters, Barb Patnode as a young child and Patricia Patnode.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 15, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at the Lake Eau Claire Club House, rural Augusta. Immediately following the service and going on throughout the afternoon will be a time to celebrate Julie’s beautiful life with laughter and refreshments. The family is assisted by Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.
