Blaine Whitmore

Blaine Eugene Whitmore, age 82, of Dallas, WI, died August 28, 2016, at Mayo Clinic Health System – Northland in Barron, WI after a courageous battle with sarcoma cancer. He was born on May 28, 1934, at Dallas, the son of Charles and Clara (Warland) Whitmore. He grew up on a farm near Dallas, attended the local schools and graduated from Barron High School in 1951. He served several years in the National Guard Reserves and one year of active duty at Fort Lewis, Washington, in the early 1960’s. He married Vivian Meyer on October 27, 1962, at the First Lutheran Church in Barron. They worked as partners and built a dairy farm two miles south of Dallas on Hwy. A. He also worked for a number of years at Chibardun Telephone Cooperative (now Mosaic) as a repairman and he was self-employed as an inseminator before devoting himself to full-time farming. Blaine played on softball and baseball teams in Dallas and Barron and was a die-hard Brewer and Packer fan. Blaine was an active member in the Dallas community, serving on the Board of Directors of Chibardun for many years and as a member of the board at the Bank of Dallas. He was a life-long member of the Dallas Lutheran Church, where he served at different times on the church council and on other committees. In 1996, Blaine and Vivian sold their dairy operation and re-settled to their property on Hwy. A, halfway between Dallas and Ridgeland. Here Blaine fulfilled his dream of removing all the old buildings and replacing them with new. The lot was completely re-landscaped and new trees were planted. A new house, machine shop, shed and grain bin were constructed. He had a passion for fixing up and painting his farm machinery. He loved planting and harvesting his corn each year and tending to the lawn during the summer months. Also during his retirement, he drove school bus for the Barron Area School District. During Blaine’s long fight with cancer, he continued to find ways to work on his farm. He was always the happiest driving the combine or mowing grass around the yard and corn fields. He left his corner of the world better than he found it. He will truly be missed.
