MILWAUKEE — Gio Gonzalez didn’t need his affable personality to make new friends in Milwaukee on Saturday night. Gonzalez received a standing ovation following an impressive first start with the Brewers, and Milwaukee beat the slumping San Francisco Giants 4-3 on Saturday night. “They believed in me and gave me a second chance,” Gonzalez said. “I want to return the favor.” Gonzalez (8-11) allowed an unearned run and three hits over 5 2/3 innings, striking
MILWAUKEE — Jesus Aguilar has cooled off some since the All-Star break, yet still brings in clutch runs. Aguilar hit a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to a 4-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Friday night. Aguilar sent a low, 0-1 pitch from Tony Watson into the gap in right-center field to score Curtis Granderson and Eric Thames. Hunter Strickland (3-5) started the seventh and walked the pinch-hitters. Watson took over one out
CINCINNATI — After a long night at the ballpark followed by a full day under the sun, Lorenzo Cain just wanted the game to end. With Milwaukee winning, of course. Cain did his part, hitting a home run off the top of the left-field fence in the 11th inning that lifted the Brewers over the Cincinnati Reds 2-1 on Thursday. NL batting leader Christian Yelich went 0 for 4 with a bases-loaded walk for Milwaukee. On Wednesday night, he went 6 for 6 and hit for the cycle as the Brewers

Mike Moustakas and Manny Piña each hit a two-run homer in the third inning, Jonathan Schoop went deep in the seventh and the Brewers beat the Pirates 7-4 on Sunday. The victory gave the Brewers their first series win against Pittsburgh this season. Milwaukee improved to 4-9 against the Pirates overall with two three-game series remaining between the NL Central rivals. The
ATLANTA — Kevin Gausman pitched eight strong innings to win his SunTrust Park debut, Ender Inciarte drove in four runs and the Atlanta Braves beat the Milwaukee Brewers 10-1 on Friday night. Nick Markakis added three RBIs and Johan Camargo had two, helping the Braves win for the ninth time in 12 games. Atlanta began the night a game back in the NL East. Milwaukee, which has dropped four of five to fall three games back in the NL Central, had a runner in scoring position in the first and
MILWAUKEE — Hunter Renfroe’s power surge is a welcome sight for the San Diego Padres. Not so much for the Milwaukee Brewers. Renfroe’s grand slam keyed a six-run rally that stunned the Brewers and gave the Padres an 8-4 victory on Thursday. Renfroe hit a home run for the fourth straight game, a blast into the left-field bleachers off Brewers reliever Joakim Soria. San Diego entered the ninth inning trailing 4-2, but rallied against Brewers closer Corey Knebel and Soria.
MILWAUKEE — The Brewers acquired second baseman Jonathan Schoop in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles, adding another option to a crowded infield as they make a push for the playoffs. The Brewers sent second baseman Jonathan Villar and two prospects to Baltimore. Schoop was the second infielder Milwaukee acquired in the last few days before Tuesday’s non-waiver trade deadline. The Brewers also dealt for third baseman Mike Moustakas from Kansas City. The plan then was for left-
