MENOMONIE — Electrifying is a word that probably doesn’t cut it when describing Sam Skillings on the wrestling mat. He shoots almost as soon as the whistle blows, and the less time he’s on the mat the better. During his freshman season at Menomonie a year ago, Skillings went 38-7 with 22 of those wins coming via pinfall. That earned him a trip to the WIAA Division 1 individual state tournament. “I like to keep heavy pressure as soon as I get him down and work

There are not going be many easy nights in the Big Rivers this season. Conference favorite Menomonie found that out Tuesday night as it held off a furious comeback from Eau Claire Memorial for a 45-44 victory in the conference opener for both teams at the Eagles Nest. “That’s the BRC right there for you,” Mustangs coach Storm Harmon said. Junior Lindsey Johnson made two huge plays late, getting loose for a layup off an in-bounds play to put Menomonie (2-1, 1-0) up two and,

MENOMONIE — It was an unseasonably warm Friday night on Sept. 15. And Menomonie running back Justin Evans, who had already had around 30 bruising runs against a physical Hudson defense, was in clear discomfort on the sidelines. But not even the worst of cramps could keep him off the field. With his team nursing a 12-point lead into the fourth quarter, Evans hobbled into the huddle and kept pounding through the tackles. On third-and-4, he busted loose for 27 yards.
MENOMONIE — Thomas Weger went up against some of the best industrial designers in the world when he entered the Michelin Global Design competition. The results are in, and it’s safe to say he and his school, UW-Stout, are proud. Weger was named a finalist — placing in the top 10 — in the light truck design competition sponsored by the American-based tire manufacturer. The contest drew 1,200 entries from 73 countries, including professional designers and design teams.
