Kornack Athlete of Year
UW-Eau Claire thrower David Kornack was named the National Field Athlete of the Year for the 2019 indoor season by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Wednesday.
Kornack won a national title in the shot put with a meet record throw of 19.93m, the farthest a Division III Athlete has thrown in the last 36 years. He owns five of the top eight marks in NCAA Division III history.
He’s the first Blugold to earn the honor and the fifth straight winner to come from the WIAC.
Softball, baseball polls released
UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stout are predicted to finish right next to each other in the WIAC standings in the league’s softball preseason poll, which was unveiled Wednesday afternoon. The Blugolds were picked to finish third and Blue Devils fourth.
In baseball, Stout is predicted to finish fifth among the seven teams. UW-Whitewater is the preseason favorite in both baseball and softball.
